It’s hard to believe the current state of the world, let alone the wedding industry. COVID-19 has left us all in limbo, trying to do the best we can, keeping each other safe and waiting to move forward. Rose & Michael’s wedding happened about a week and a half before any of the restrictions were put into place. Their wedding of 120 people seems unheard of now, only a month later. Looking back on the gorgeous photos it’s really helped me to reconnect with why I love working on wedding cakes and feel for a moment the immense joy that these celebrations bring. Seeing how happy they are and how beautiful the entire celebration came together brings so much hope to a space where I may not get to work on another wedding cake for six months.

Rose & Michael originally came to me looking for a semi naked single tier vegan wedding cake. They loved the look of large single tier statement cakes and had a vision of native florals decorating the top that matched the bridal bouquet. I essentially had no work to do to design this…haha…they already knew exactly what they wanted. We met up in my studio, along with their son, in order to fine tuned some of the sizing details and that was that! Their massive 11” round semi naked cake was coconut with salted caramel ganache. The cake is light and fluffy with a generous amount of desiccated coconut throughout the batter. The salted caramel is homemade with burnt sugar savoury notes throughout. We had additional kitchen cakes to make up the full 120 dessert slices required. Believe me, that’s a lot of cake!

The cake presented beautifully at Three Blue Ducks in Rosebery. The venue is a huge industrial warehouse with gentle light and greenery everywhere. It’s a real mix of rustic modern that matches their delicious food highlighting seasonal local produce. Huge long tables ran the length of the space with a wine barrel set up at the end for the cake. The styling all tied together perfectly.

Valley's Vegan 1st Birthday Celebrations

We had the pleasure of creating a beautiful cake & custom cookies for Valley’s first birthday celebrations. The party was organised by her mum, Alyssa, who put so much trust in me, allowing us to create something truly special and unique.

The cake design was based off Valley’s invitation. I wanted to feature the beautiful floral wreath and add in some 3D elements to really highlight the beautiful butterflies from the artwork.

The flowers were all sourced from The Flower Room in Newtown. They always have unique blooms and I wanted to find bright colours in interesting flowers. Coincidentally, they almost exactly matched the flowers Alyssa organised as well!

We also made custom cookie party favours. They each featured a stamped message, hand painting and little butterflies. Everything came together so cute.

The original party was scheduled to be in a nearby park. Due to a rainy forecast, Alyssa booked Valley’s party into a nearby hotel. The set up was beautiful! I loved the custom coloured balloons, wild florals and of course, butterflies everywhere.

When Megan came to see me to discuss her wedding at Wylie’s Baths in Coogee I had no idea what to expect. She had an amazing idea for her vegan cake featuring jewel tones and I knew the baths, but didn’t have her amazing vision of what it would be transformed into. Along with Gallivant Events, Girl Friday Weddings created the most amazing and intimate celebration. There were pops of colour everywhere, care of The Flower Drum, that contrasted so beautifully with the weathered timber at the heritage baths. It was hard to choose, but the below are some of my favourite photos taken by Folk & Follow, another amazing vendor!
